This Holiday Season, Keep in Touch with ALL Your Loved Ones

We’d like to take a moment to alert you to a product we are proud to have as part of PayDayHawaii’s array of services: Just Talk Communications.

Each year thousands of incarcerated men and women are separated from their family members and loved ones with only a few ways of keeping connections between them alive.

According to a recent Pew Report, incarceration is at an all-time high in the United States. More than one in 100 people are in jail or prison; a number that keeps growing. According to the Pew Report, “more people are behind bars principally because of a wave of policy choices that are sending more lawbreakers to prison and, through popular ‘three-strikes’ measures and other sentencing laws, imposing longer prison stays on inmates.”

An astounding statistic: One person in ten in the U.S. will know or be related to someone currently or formerly incarcerated.

The holidays are a particularly agonizing time for both the inmate and their family. The only communications possible are through phone calls, written letters, in-person visits, and (very rarely) email. Often, visiting is practically impossible, especially to those incarcerated on the mainland. To help address this, the Federal prison system allows inmates a greater number of telephone minutes to use in December (but not, unfortunately, more money).

It is vitally important to keep the lines of communication open between inmates and loved ones—it’s the primary factor in the inmate’s successful reentry and adjustment upon release.

Just Talk, available at Payday Hawaii, provides a low-cost alternative to the traditional, and expensive, prison and jail collect-call phone system.

A normal collect call from an Arizona correctional center to Hawaii, for example, would cost $9.75 for a 15-minute call. With Just Talk prepaid collect calling service, families are able to answer calls for a flat rate of $3.50. And, they can accept calls on a cell phone or VoIP connection.

Just Talk service includes all prisons and jails in Hawaii. On the mainland, Just Talk offers service from facilities in Arizona, California, Colorado, and Pennsylvania with plans to expand nationwide. More info here.

Also, new this holiday season, Just Talk will send a Christmas card to your incarcerated loved one, at no charge. See here for details.

This holiday season don’t let distance or money keep you from speaking to your loved ones who are incarcerated. You are not alone: We are here to help.
